POWER OF ATTORNEY FORMS - You may use my Power of Attorney forms at your own risk.  I don't promise that my forms will be accepted by your Bank, your title company, or anyone else.  It's best to show the blank form to the entity that requires the Power of Attorney and ask, "Does this form fulfill your requirements?"  The institution may have their own form they want you to use (especially if it's a real estate transaction or a Lange).  There are as many different Power of Attorney forms as there are attorneys in California (scary, right?).

If you need a copy of a document notarized (like a birth certificate, a school transcript, etc.) we can notarize your statement on the document saying, "I swear that this is a true copy of the original.", and YOU will sign the document, and I will notarize your signature.  I am not allowed to certify the copy directly (the only acception is for a copy of a Power of Attorney, when you present both the original and the copy to me for notarization).

We CAN NOT:
Give you an unattached acknowledgement certificate, notarize a translation, notarize without ID, certify an object or event, notarize with an interpreter, notarize a patent or copyright, notarize a will unless in the presence of an attorney, or give legal advice.

CURRENT INFORMATION ABOUT NOTARIES GOING TO THE O.C. PRISONS, AS OF JULY, 2012
Someone has decided that notaries should NOT be allowed to notarize papers Monday-Thursday, during regular business hours.  Most notaries (me) don't want to visit the prisoner on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and wait through the long visiting lines to notarize a document.  Also, the guards back in General Population at Theo Lacy, and the Guards in the visiting area at Men's Central, sometimes won't allow the prisoner to sign the papers in front of the notary.  The Secretary of State REQUIRES that the signer appear before the notary and acknowledge their signature - so the prison guards have decided they don't have to cooperate with Secretary of State requirements.  And effective 2013, the O.C. Sheriff's Department will no longer renew security clearance for notaries.

A lawyer who is also a Notary Public may still visit the prisoner and notarize paperwork Monday-Thursday, but they're going to charge you lawyer fees - and I believe that most reputable lawyers are not notaries because there is a conflict of interest notarizing their own clients paperwork.  I've been notarizing papers for prisoners for many years (I do have security clearance at the prisons), and I was astounded when they wouldn't let me take a Medical Power of Attorney into a prisoner on a weekday.
